Set Design: First Meeting With Our Set Designers

In our class today, we had a meeting with our set designers, showing them our skteched drafts and discussing their opinion of our video concept as well as whether they think they can work with it. This was the feedback from set designers:

- Ideas to make it more visually interesting: have the artist singing solo in the centre with dancers in more of the foreground either side of her. They could all be still and have the camera  pan around them.

- Use dancers as props like mannequins for part of the set up so then you can film the artist on her own, the dancers on their own the artist and dancers moving and then the artist and the dancers still.

- Using their body parts to shoot through - If we choreograph a moment where the dancers are circled around the artist, we could shoot the camera between their arms or the gaps between them.

- Experiment with levels, foreground, midground and background

- Think about wardrobe - very important. Have the dancers the same style hair and makeup etc especially if we carry out the manikin idea.

- Multiple costume changes for artist: Make sure there's a purpose for it.

- Consider how a change in background colours could work.

- The first two elements are strong but is the last too similar? Possible different third element but alongside the set designers we are going to further develop the last element.
