Research Into Similar Products

As we start looking further into the development of the symbolic conventions we will need to exploit, we returned back to the four similar artists that we looked at for our research and looked into the makeup, hair, and costume.

I began by looking into the makeup used. All of them other than Lana Del Rey have relatively natural looking makeup for the beginning but as the song progresses, it becomes more detailed with the addition of a bright eyeshadow or more eyeliner. Lana Del Rey's makeup was far more noticeable. She had perfect eyeliner, fake lashes, and red lipstick.

For the most part in Tove lo, Lykke Li and Maggie Rogers their hair is styled in a natural, effortless way often down with a middle parting or half up half down. Lana Del Rey, on the other hand, has her hair styled with glamorous and rather meticulous curls suiting the style of her video.
The use of props is relatively minimal other than the bags at the end of Lykke Li's video where she's about to elope and Lana Del Rey's microphone. Maggie Rogers has the jumper in the first element and her jacket in the second which she used as a motive but not necessarily a prop.

Neither Lykke Li or Lana Del Rey have any costume changes in the video. Lykke Li stays in a relatively casual outfit whilst Lana stays in her long white dress throughout. Tove Lo and Maggie Rogers do have changes. Maggie goes from wearing a simple pair of trousers, a white t-shirt and a jumper to wearing an all white party outfit. Tove Lo's costumes change pretty significantly per element as they are all so different.
